About this service
A visa gives a foreigner the right to enter Ukraine, not the right to live here. The short-term type C visa opens a trip, while the long-term type D visa is issued for 90 days on a defined ground and is the only one a residence permit can be built on. Either way the application is filled in and registered at visa.mfa.gov.ua.
More in the knowledge base: Type C or type D visa: which Ukrainian visa do you need?Who it is for
- Nationals of visa countries who need to enter Ukraine
- Anyone planning a residence permit: only the long-term type D visa leads to one
- Host companies inviting an employee, a partner or a volunteer
What documents are needed
- Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the date of departure, with at least 2 free pages
- One colour photograph, 35 × 45 mm
- Health insurance policy covering at least EUR 30,000
- Proof of sufficient funds: a host's guarantee letter or a bank statement
- The ground document: work permit, marriage certificate, admission letter, immigration permit decision

Frequently asked questions
Which visa do I need if I want a residence permit afterwards?+
Only the long-term type D visa. It is issued for 90 days and only on a defined ground: employment, studies, marriage to a Ukrainian citizen, volunteering. A type C visa cannot carry a residence permit.
How much is the consular charge?+
The base consular charge is USD 65. It is paid to the consulate directly and is not part of our fee. The final amount depends on the number of entries and on the review order.
Can I use an e-visa instead?+
The e-visa is available to nationals of 52 states and allows a stay of up to 30 days. It does not work for employment, studies or a residence permit — those need a type D visa.
Where are the documents filed?+
At Ukrainian embassies and consulates abroad, no earlier than 3 months before the trip, and through visa centres. We prepare the file and advise which consulate to approach.
How long does the review take?+
Up to 10 working days in the normal order and up to 5 in the urgent one. The overall time also depends on the appointment slot at the particular consulate.
What insurance does a visa need?+
A health insurance policy covering at least EUR 30,000. For a multiple-entry visa the policy for the first trip is checked. We arrange the policy ourselves.
What if the visa is refused?+
First we establish the reason: most often an incomplete file or weak proof of the purpose of the trip and of sufficient funds. We fix the cause and apply again.
